Smith, P.E. recently presented a paper at the First International Acid Gas
Injection Symposium held at the Coast Plaza Conference
Center, Calgary, Alberta, Canada on October 5, 2009. His
topic was “A Review of Acid Gas Injection with Discussion of Critical Criteria
for Future Acid Gas Injections Projects”. The Conference was developed by Dr.
John Carroll, Director of Geostorage Process
Engineering at Gas Liquids Engineering in Calgary,
Canada.

Smith, P.E. recently attended the 2009 Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual
Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) at the Ernest
N. Morial Convention
Center in New Orleans,
LA. The International Conference
was attended by over 8,000 professionals in the petroleum industry worldwide.
ATCE 2009 featured technical sessions with approximately 375 papers on
innovative technologies, case studies and best practices. More than 390
exhibiting companies, utilizing 88,800 sq ft of exhibit space, featured the
latest products and services in the Petroleum exploration and production
industry.

James E. Smith, a
Tyler
registered professional petroleum engineer and president of James E. Smith & Associates, Inc.,
Spartan Operating Company and Peak Oil & Gas, Inc., has been busy
lately.
Earlier
this month, he lectured on “Introduction to Gas Quality Specifications” during
the Red River Conference 2006 in
Tyler. The
conference is presented by the North
Texas Gas Producers Association,
the Natural Gas Society of East Texas
and Access Education.
Smith also
participated in the 2006 Society of
Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, where he
attended the short continuing education courses “Horizontal Well Completions”
and “Reservoir Aspects of Horizontal and Multilateral Wells”.

Operating Company, and Peak Oil & Gas Company, was invited to attend a
breakfast to meet with Elizabeth Ames Jones, recently appointed to the Railroad
Commission of Texas. Jones recalled her ties to Marshall
and East Texas and spoke briefly to the group
on the future of the petroleum industry. Jones, a San Antonio resident who will be up for election in March
of 2006, outlined her plans for improving the oil industry in Texas and answered questions on the Railroad

Company, and Peak Oil & Gas Company, recently attended the international
convention held yearly by the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers (SPEE)
in Quebec City, Canada. Held at the Fairmont
Chateau le Frontenac hotel, the conference was attended by professional
evaluation engineers from the U.S.
and Canada.
The program included presentations on energy supply, demand, and price, global
energy security issues, ethics, Canadian royalty trusts, the Russian energy
industry today, and the SPEE Parameter Survey.

Energy Producers - Oil Legends Luncheon

Engineer, and President of James E. Smith & Associates, Inc., Spartan
Operating Company, and Peak Oil & Gas Company, member of the Texas Alliance
of Energy Producers has been named as one of the hosts for the Oil Legends
luncheon on July 19 at Hollytree Country Club. The event will honor two great
pioneers, "Dad" Joiner, who drilled the first discovery well, and
Daisy Bradford, who owned the land and mineral rights. Special guests will
include surviving family members of Mr. Joiner and Mrs. Bradford; Bruce Wells,
Executive Director of the American Oil and Gas Historical Society, Washington,
D.C.; Joe White, Director of the Kilgore Oil Museum, and State Senator Kevin Eltife, who will present the awards at the luncheon. The
Texas Alliance of Energy Producers was created in 2000 with the merger of two
of the oldest oil and gas associations in the nation, the North Texas Oil &
Gas Association and the West Central Texas Oil & Gas Association.

James E. Smith, P.E., Tyler petroleum engineer,
has completed a Society of Petroleum Engineers Workshop on Hydraulic
Fracturing. The workshop was held November 10 and 11, 2004 at the Ellison Miles
Geotechnology Institute at Brookhaven
College in Dallas. The technical agenda included
discussions regarding improving production, horizontal wells, fluid applications,
fiber assisted transport, proppant transport,
fracture conductivity, fracture design and mapping, seismic techniques, and
fracture propagation.

Engineer, recently attended a 2-day continuing education course entitled
“Petroleum Reserves” in Houston, Texas at the George
R. Brown
Convention Center. The
course was designed for industry professionals involved in the estimation
and/or filing of petroleum reserves under SEC and/or SPE/WPC guidelines or any
oil or gas professionals interested in gaining a better understanding of the
reserves estimating process. A basic
knowledge of reserves estimation methods and reserves definitions was
recommended, but not required of all attendees.

Engineer, has attended the Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical
Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) at the George
R. Brown
Convention Center in Houston. “A World of Evolving Technology” was
the theme of this years Conference program, which ran from September 26 –
29. ATCE is one of the most prestigious
and long-standing events in the upstream oil and gas industry. Celebrating its
80th year, ATCE events included more than 450 technical papers
presented throughout 73 sessions designed to meet the needs and address the
everyday challenges of engineers, scientists, managers, operators, university
students and industry executives. Smith is a 45-year member of the
organization.

by 91.142, Texas Natural Resources Code, requiring operators to carry a
